Michael Wardian's Appalachian Trail Run

Hey friends! I will be running the Appalachian Trail, starting in Maine and ending in Georgia! The Appalachian Trail crosses 14 states, totaling 2,198 miles. my goal is to complete it in 50 days, which also means an elevation gain (and drop) of 464,500 feet by the time I have completed it.

My goal is to raise $294,871. Why such a random amount? Glad you asked! After visiting World Vision's work in Ethiopia and meeting so many communities in need, I wanted to make this event about saving the lives of a community named Oromia. This project will fund one deep underground water well that then is pumped to a water reservoir at higher elevation to the community. Water is then piped from the reservoir to a school and multiple water points in the community. Construction is ready to begin and they hope to have it completed by the end of the year. Currently, there are 4,146 people living there. We would be providing clean, sustainable drinking water to all of them if we can hit our goal!

More than 800 children under age 5 die every day from diarrhea caused by contaminated water, poor sanitation, and unsafe hygiene. But we believe the global water and sanitation crisis can be solved within our lifetimes. Water is life, and children's lives are transformed when they have access to clean water.

World Vision is the leading nongovernmental provider of clean water on the planet, reaching one new person
with clean water every 10 seconds
. In 2021, World Vision celebrated the achievement of helping 20 million people around the world get access to clean water. In addition, by providing hygiene behavior change support and sanitation facilities, such as latrines and handwashing stations, the health benefits of clean water are multiplied through reduction of the spread of illness and disease.

Will you join me in my run across America to bring life in all of its fullness to children across the world?
