The Race

The 2024 BMW Berlin Marathon is going to be an epic race that you won’t want to miss! This year will be the 50th iteration of the race and I'm sure it will be special.

This World Marathon Major winds its way through the beautiful, historic streets of Berlin. Famously flat and fast, the course is lined by more than 80 bands encouraging you along your way to the finish line. Because you changed more than 200 lives, we are inviting you to run this incredible race with us!

The Berlin Marathon is typically difficult to enter, but Team World Vision has entries secured for 2024! We are excited to have you join our team and change lives through Child Sponsorship and cash fundraising. 

Base training starts Monday, April 1, 2024
Official marathon training starts Monday, May 27, 2024

Individual Fundraising Goals

As you train for this epic race, you will engage your family, friends, and network to become child sponsors and make one-time gifts on your fundraising page. Our goal for the 2024 Berlin Marathon team is to change the lives of 250 children through sponsorship AND 5,000 people by raising $250,000!

Each individual is asked to fundraise a minimum of $10,000 and find Child Sponsors for 10 kids by Race Day, September 29, 2024.

How Child Sponsorship Works

Child sponsorship is the most personal and effective way to fight poverty. When a child is sponsored, the child and their community are provided with:

Clean Water & Sanitation Depending on community needs, World Vision provides access to safe water, trains community members to maintain wells and water pumps, builds latrines, and works alongside community members to improve hygiene practices.

Education World Vision supports the education of children through paying school fees, buying books and uniforms, helping with classroom repairs, restoring schools, and training teachers.

Nutritious Food World Vision goes beyond food distribution by focusing on creating sustainable food supplies through agricultural programs and improved nutrition and training.

Healthcare Your child sponsorship provides access to things like medical clinics, vaccinations, training in disease prevention, and other health care programs.

Economic Development Microloans and business training enable families to build a better future for children.

Child Protection World Vision advocates for child rights and helps protect children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Tentative Trip Itinerary

Team World Vision will secure a hotel room block so we can all stay at the same hotel, but booking travel and all associated costs will be up to each individual traveler. Feel free to extend your trip on either end with friends or family. All are welcome to participate in race weekend activities.

Thursday, September 26th:  Arrive in Berlin & Team Welcome Dinner (Traditional German Cuisine)
Friday, September 27th: Expo and Bike Tour of Berlin
Saturday, September 28th: Rest day and Team Dinner
Sunday, September 29th: Race Day and Celebration
Monday, September 30th: Celebration Breakfast

All costs are assumed by traveler(s), except for the team dinner the night before the race.

Hotel
Estimated costs are currently $900 for accommodations (4 nights at ~$209/night for a single hotel, or ~$229/night for a double) and $700-$1,000 for airfare via booking online (check kayak.com).

Race Bib Fee
The race fee for the 2024 Berlin Marathon is $225 USD.
